What is Melasma?

Melasma is a pigmentation in the skin triggered by hormonal changes, often during pregnancy or times of hormonal changes within the body. Typically you see melasma appear along the jawline, on the cheeks and/or above the lips.

Melasma Treatment & Prevention

Melasma can be very challenging to treat and prevent but it is not impossible! Here are our top 5 ways to treat & prevent Melasma

1. Laser Treatments: such as halo hybrid fractional laser can really help to clear up the skin by lifting the pigment up and off the skin and helps to refine the surface of the skin to give the skin a much more smooth, uniform appearance

2. Vitamin C: is an antioxidant to protect the skin from further free radical damage

3. Lightening Ingredient such as hydroquinone or kojic Acid: which are both proven to be highly effective to lighten any existing discolouration on the skin

4. Sun Protection: SPF should be used daily both to protect the skin as well as prevent future melasma from occurring. As soon as you are exposed to the sun it really triggers melasma so using a high quality spf regularly is essential. Don't forget other form of sun protection such as sun glasses or wearing a hat when exposed to direct sunlight.

5. Camouflage and Protect: with a mineral makeup containing spf such as Jane Iredale pressed powder.
