While the decision to undergo any surgical procedure should never be taken too lightly, we want to tell you about one treatment that anyone, male or female, who has started to notice their upper eyelids becoming puffy and saggy (and isn't too pleased with the look!) really ought to consider: upper eyelid blepharoplasty.
What is Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
Also called eyelid lift surgery, this one-to-one-and-a-half-hour procedure involves the removal and/or tightening of sagging skin around the eyes, creating a smoother and more-taut appearance. In addition to removing extra skin, upper eyelid blepharoplasty often includes the removal of fat pockets that make eyes look puffy.
Why Should I Do It?
Eyelid lift surgery makes the eyes look more youthful and contoured, need we say more? Whether you blame it on genetics, UV exposure or the natural passing of time, the eyes are one of the first parts of the face to show the signs of aging. As we age, we begin to notice changes that contribute to an overall tired look. In the upper and lower eyelids we begin to notice sagging and loose skin, and these structure begin to lose their firm texture. At the same time, fat deposits begin to bulge forward as we develop lax eyelid structures. In general, women have a hard time applying makeup like they used to, while men and women find that they look more tired than they actually feel. Others feel that while the rest of their face looks youthful, their puffy eyes give away their true age, or make them look older than they are.
Who is a Candidate for Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty?
Typical candidates for upper eyelid lift surgery are men and women age 35 or older who have started to notice puffy and sagging upper eyelids, though you may not be a candidate if you take prescription blood thinners that you can't take a break from or if you have chronic dry eye syndrome, your surgeon will help determine whether the procedure is safe for you or not. For the majority of patients, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is very safe and extremely effective, with an added perk of very little downtime compared to other surgical cosmetic procedures!
3 Bleph Benefits at a Glance
We hate to sound repetitive, but we really believe that many people - including, perhaps, you - would be thrilled about a decision to have an upper eyelid blepharoplasty performed? Here's why:
> Dramatic improvements: Saggy, puffy skin around the eyes is one of the main contributors to an aging and tired look. A quick tightening or removal of this extra skin will suddenly brighten the eyes and literally take years off of your appearance. This miraculous procedure also results in more show of the upper eyelid crease, making your eyes look beautifully bigger.
> Quick recovery: Recovery is usually very swift and easy after an upper eyelid blepharoplasty. You'll likely see some bruising for one to weeks post procedure. Most patients are back at their desks doing work just days after surgery and back to ''regular'' life about one or two weeks later, looking fresher and more youthful!
> Minimal scarring: Incisions are carefully hidden inside the upper eyelid crease; once healed, the incisions are nearly imperceptible, especially when the eyes are open. Contrast this to the hip-to-hip scars of a tummy tuck and it is clear why so many patients find an upper bleph to be such a simple procedure to recover from.
