Is a Chin Implant Right for You? Watch the Video.

Are you interested in having chin implant surgery to correct a recessive chin? The team of specialists at 8 West Cosmetic Surgery and their facial plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Buonassisi have created a video to answer your questions.

Chin implant surgery is a safe and effective way to project your chin, and achieve an overall more balanced or pronounced facial shape and profile. Dr. Buonassisi will help assess if a chin implant on its own, or in combination with a double chin surgery or lower facelift, will help achieve your goals.

The ideal chin placement: The ideal chin sits at the same position as the forehead; chin implant surgery is often used to correct a recessive chin that sits farther back than the forehead. A recessive chin is an inherited feature, but does not always involve jowls or lax tissue around the jowls and chin.

How is chin implant surgery performed?
Dr. Buonassisi will make a small incision underneath the chin to keep any scarring well out of sight; the soft tissues of the chin are then elevated away from the bone, and a small pocket is created and the implant is inserted. Dissolvable stitches are used in the midline to secure the implant. Chin implant surgery typically takes one hour and patients can return home the same day.
