Combination Facial Rejuvenation Surgery Makes the Entire Face Look Younger - Not Just the Lower Face
The term facelift is a bit of a misnomer because this type of procedure addresses the lower face and neck only and not the whole face. A facelift isn't just skin tightening - the deep down structure of the face are lifted and tightened - achieving the most natural and most effective results. Patients wanting to restore a more youthful look to their eyes, brows, mid face and skin will consider what is called Combination Facial Rejuvenation Surgery, taking advantage of both surgical and non surgical procedures to achieve the most natural looking results.Facelift surgery is often combined with these procedures:
- upper and/or lower blepharoplasty - to remove sagging skin and pockets of bulging fat from the eyelids
- browlift - to reposition the eyes to a more youthful and elegant shape
- chin or cheek implants to improve definition and facial structure
- moderately deep to surgically deep laser skin resurfacing, to improve the appearance of fine lines wrinkles and sun damage
- IPL/BBL to fade brown spots and plump up collagen
- Botox to soften dynamic wrinkles around the eyes and forehead
- dermal fillers to add volume to cheeks and lips, or to camouflage shadows and plump up areas that have lost volume
- many more non surgical treatments can be done in conjunction with facelift surgery
Let's Review the Different Categories of Facelifts:
- Short Incision Facelift - a smaller, less invasive facelift for patients typically aged 40 and up who have a sagging lower face with jowls, but their neck is considered minimally saggy
- Long Incision Facelift - a larger facelift with an extended incision for patients typically 50 and up who have a sagging lower face with jowls, and their neck is moderately to severely saggy
- Combination Facial Rejuvenation (described on this page) - a short or long incision facelift combined with other surgical procedures to achieve the best result for the whole face also addressing eyes, brows and bone structure (if necessary)
- Total Facial Rejuvenation - a combination of short or long incision facelift plus other surgical and non surgical procedures to achieve the absolute most natural and most restorative result
FAQs
What Type of Facelift is Best for Me?
If you are thinking about a facial rejuvenation procedure, please take advantage of our complimentary pre consultation. This is a discussion with a knowledgeable patient care expert who can help determine what procedure might be right for you, give you more information about recovery and tell you how much the procedure costs.
What is the Recovery from Combination Facial Rejuvenation Like?
The length of the recovery is determined by what type of facelift is used. Additional procedures combined with the facelift - such as eyelids or brows, do not lengthen the recovery since the facelift is the procedure that has the longest downtime. Here are some guidelines:
- a short incision facelift combined with upper and/or lower blepharoplasty and/or browlift surgery and/or facial implants - plan to take 2 - 3 weeks off for recovery
- a long incision facelift combined with upper and/or lower blepharoplasty and/or browlift surgery and/or facial implants - plan to take 3 - 4 weeks off for recovery
Do I Have to Do My Eyes at the Same Time as My Facelift?
Of course not - they are individual procedures and you can choose to have the facelift on its own or with other procedures. There are some benefits to combining procedures:
- most patients who are experiencing sagging and aging of the lower face are also seeing those changes in the eyes and brows - while it is not necessary to combine procedures, doing so may result in the most natural looking result, depending on how much your face has aged (a youthful looking lower face that matches youthful looking eyes)
- many patients who have their blepharoplasty or facelift first will also wish to rejuvenate other parts of the face later - combining procedures means the patients only has to have one "down time"
