Wrinkle Relaxing Injections and Dermal Fillers have become quite common, with many people making such treatments a regular part of their beauty schedule, with people even slotting in their Botox injections during their lunch break. With the rise in these treatments, and the discourse around such treatments being considered quite normal, there has also been a rise in the number of businesses and individuals who perform these treatments. As with any good and/or service provided, when demand goes up, so must the supply. But in this instance, the supply of professionally trained, highly experienced injectors is something that isn't as easy to come by as the demand implies. Administering Botox (also known as neuromodulators) may seem fairly straightforward - just place the product into the area where the wrinkles are, and there you go; you've been Botox-ed! It's that easy, right? Wrong. While Botox is becoming much more commonplace, it is still a medical treatment at the end of the day - and who do you want performing a medical treatment? The anatomy of the face, its muscles, your individual genetics, face structure and desired results are all variables that can mean the difference between a good Botox job, and an undesirable one. That is why we have put together a bit of a guide on how to find the Best Botox in Vancouver (or any city, really). REQUEST A COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION
Find a Practise Led by a Board Certified Doctor
A board certification means that the physician has achieved a mastery in their specific field. It isn't something awarded at a certain level - physicians must fulfil certain criteria, including exams that cover the entire breadth of their field, as well as have a certain amount of training and experience. RealSelf writes that finding a physician trained in skin or facial plastic surgery can be the difference between a good Botox result, and a bad one. The Dermatology Group also agrees, and advices that you go one step further and find yourself a clinic led by a board-certified physician, and that this is the most important step you can take when looking to receive Botox injections. This is not only to guarantee an expert is safely performing the injection, but that they also know how to achieve the best results for your specific facial aesthetics needs.8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic has dual-board certified Facial Plastic surgeon, Dr. Thomas Buonassisi leading the charge. He has hand-picked two of the top injectors in the country, with over 35 years experience between the two of them. They not only have extensive experience treating patients, but they also train other injectors for Allergan and Galderma - two of the world's most well-known suppliers of neuromodulator products.
Bargain Doesn't Mean Best
When it comes to groceries, clothing, meals, and many other items, price is a huge motivator when it comes to deciding what to buy. Surprisingly, how people approach Botox doesn't seem to be very different. A common question asked is how much is your Botox per unit? While this is a fair question for someone can gauge affordability, it doesn't paint the whole picture. When you are paying for Botox, you aren't simply paying for the product - you are also paying for the experience of the injector. As mentioned, it requires a large amount of experience to get the best out of Botox. The Dermatology Group also strongly suggests that if the price is too good to be true, it probably is and offers this sound piece of advice for not just Botox, but all medical procedures; don't cut corners when it comes to choosing a doctor or clinic.
Less IS More
"Less is more" may be a common expression when it comes to aesthetics (fashion, makeup, accessories), but it is almost as if this expression was coined for Botox. First of all, a Botox treatment takes between 7-14 days for the full effects to be visible. So, it's best to under-treat and add more if required, than to over-treat and have to wait 3-4 months for it to soften and wear off. Also, facial muscles and how they control your expression are much more complicated than meets the eye. When placing Botox in certain parts of the face, how each facial muscle interacts with each other is imperative. For example, placing too much Botox into the forehead (to treat forehead wrinkles) may then cause the brow to drop as the forehead muscle relaxes. What an experienced injector will do is inject small amounts into a strategic area, so that when one muscle relaxes, others kick in to compensate and can instead create a brow lift. Treating fine lines and wrinkles isn't as straightforward as blitzing the area with a tonne of Botox - it's a delicate balancing act to both deliver your goals, but also make it look as though Botox never even touched your face.
Consultations Are Key
Even if you are a seasoned Botox-ee, when trying a new clinic or practise, it is always crucial to have a consultation with the new injector. This is not only so you can get a good feel for the person, but so that they can assess you, how your face moves, and how they can achieve your desired results. In a consultation, your injector will likely have you raise and lower your eyebrows, frown and smile, and take important mental notes on your facial anatomy. This will also allow them to provide you with an accurate quote for treatment. Finding a clinic that provides complimentary consultations is also ideal, so that you feel no obligation and can ensure that you feel comfortable with the practise and the injector before paying for any treatment.8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic provides free consultations with both our nurse injectors and medical aesthetics. This is so that we get a chance to get to know you, your treatment history, your lifestyle and how we can best achieve your medical aesthetic goals.
