A Passion for Sport, Performance & Community
Beyond her work in health and longevity, Angie is passionate about cycling. While she considers herself a recreational cyclist, she has also dabbled in racing and played an active role in growing the female road bike racing community in Vancouver. She has hosted and supported learn-to-race events, hoping to inspire more women of all ages to progress and race bikes together.
Some of Angie’s podium finishes include 2nd place at Whistler Xfondo 2023, 1st place and QOM at Axel Merckx Gran Fondo 2019, and 3rd place at Whistler Gran Fondo 2018. While not an official win, Angie is proud to say she hung in for about 20 laps of the GasTown Gran Prix - an example of how showing up to the startline is a victory in and of itself.
Angie served six years as a board member of Cycling BC, supporting both grassroots and elite cycling initiatives. Through her cycling team, Velogrit Lontreau, she has participated in ultra-endurance challenges to raise money for Coast Mental Health and BC Cancer. In 2022, Velogrit raised over $50,000 for Coast Mental Health through a self-designed endurance challenge, the 2x4. The challenge involved climbing SFU, Seymour, Grouse, and Cypress—twice in one day—totaling over 180 km and 4,800 meters of climbing. Angie and her team have taken on some of the toughest rides in the area, pushing their physical limits while supporting causes that matter.
When she’s not training on her bike, Angie enjoys weightlifting, skiing, skate skiing, and wing foiling—sports she shares with her husband, Dr.Thomas Buonassisi, and two young daughters, encouraging them to embrace movement, adventure, and resilience in both sport and life.
