Benefits of Chin Implant Surgery

Bone structure of the lower face and chin is typically purely genetic, and there are ways to augment and adjust this with implants if you wish to have a more balanced appearance. Chin Implants are a great, safe, and effective way to address some concerns and create:

  • A more pronounced chin
  • A more balanced look to the face
  • A sharper neckline and jawline
  • A softening of jowl

How Chin Implant Surgery is Performed

There are several implant types and insertion methods that can be used to achieve chin augmentation. Dr. Buonassisi carefully evaluates the facial profile and through discussion will recommend the size and shape of implant that would best suit the individual.

Most commonly a small incision is strategically placed under the chin, so that any scarring is well-hidden. The soft tissues of the chin are then elevated away from the bone, and a small pocket is created under the periosteum (thick layer that envelops the bone) where the implant is inserted. The implant is then secured in the midline by dissolvable stitches.

In other circumstances the implant may be placed through an incision inside the mouth, as opposed to under the chin. Which technique Dr. Buonassisi intends to use will be discussed in detail during a consultation.

How Long Does it Take to Recover from Chin Implant Surgery?

Immediately post-surgery you will have a dressing on the surgery site that will remain in place for two to three days. You will experience some tenderness and post-operative swelling for up to six weeks.

Most patients feel a stretched, tight sensation after the surgery, but this usually subsides in a week.

Chewing will likely be limited immediately after chin surgery, and it may be more comfortable to shift to a liquid diet.

After approximately six weeks, most swelling will be gone, and you will begin to see the results of the procedure. We recommend avoiding rigorous activity for the first few weeks after surgery. Normal activity can be resumed after approximately 10 days.

All details of the procedure and recovery will be explained to you in detail by your Patient Care Manager in the lead up to your surgery.

Who is a Candidate for Chin Implant Surgery?

One of the most common patients who look into Chin Implant surgery is due to an under-projected chin, which is commonly a genetic feature. Chin Implant surgery is typically ideal for patients who have:

  • A double chin or “weak” chin
  • A rounder face shape
  • Soft neckline or jawline
  • Jowling or lax neck skin

Patients with a double chin also see a remarkable improvement in this feature when a chin augmentation is combined with neck tightening. During your pre-consultation with our Patient Care Managers, they will perform a photo review with Dr. Buonassisi to ensure you are an ideal candidate for Chin Implant Surgery.

What’s Covered in Your Pre-Assessment Call

Step 1: Request Your Complimentary Pre-Assessment Session with the 8 West Clinic Team

A pre-assessment session is a complimentary service that is required for anyone considering Chin Implant surgery. In your pre-assessment session with a patient care manager, they will conduct a photo review with yourself and Dr. Buonassisi on your behalf to confirm that you are a candidate for the procedure. They will also discuss the surgery cost, timeline, and process, as well as any other options that Dr. Buonassisi may have suggest to achieve your desired results.

Step 2: Schedule Your Consultation with Dr. Buonassisi

Meet Dr. Buonassisi in person (or online if you are an out-of-town patient) for expectations setting. The surgical consultation is by far the most important part of the cosmetic surgery process because this is the communication tool that helps explain what can be achieved in surgery.

You may ask Dr. Buonassisi to share real patient Before and After photos to help illustrate what can be achieved with the particular surgery you are discussing. This is also your opportunity to ask him any questions.

Step 3: Schedule Your Surgery and Receive Ongoing Care in Follow Up Visits

Our team of medical professionals and patient care managers are here to make your experience a smooth, informative and positive one. We manage all the details of your surgery and schedule a series of follow-up appointments to ensure you are healing well and are happy with your results! We are here to help answer all your questions about recovery.

The decision to proceed with Chin Implant surgery should be made with the utmost level of care and attention. While it can be exciting to think about how you may look with Chin Implant surgery, it is important to be informed about both the risks and benefits of surgery.

The pre-consultation discussion is a complimentary service with our award-winning, knowledgeable and friendly patient care team, which we recommend to anyone considering any surgery.
