Double Eyelid Surgery is quite a popular surgical procedure, and at 8 West Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Clinic we see a relatively large amount of enquiries regarding this. This Surgery, for those who have never heard of this procedure before, is one that aims to create a crease in the upper eyelid for those who are born without one. Among the questions we receive about this procedure (and all other procedures), the most popular and often first question asked is “how much does double eyelid surgery cost?”According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2020, the average cost of cosmetic eyelid surgery was $4120 USD (approx. $5,500 CAD based on 2020 average conversion rates). In 2022, the average cost of double eye lid surgery in Canada falls between $5,500 up to $7,000 CAD.  Let’s break down the details of having this procedure at 8 West Clinic, and what goes into a Double Eyelid Surgery with Dr. Buonassisi; the consultation, techniques, training, results and how each of these are valued.

The first step on your surgical journey is usually your consultation. This is typically where you would discuss the surgery you are interested in, determine if you are a candidate, learn more about what to expect, and get an overall sense of the surgeon, the staff and the practise. Surgical consultations usually incur a cost to go towards the surgeon's time, and this amount is charged regardless of whether or not you are a candidate, or if you decide to proceed with the surgery. At 8 West Clinic, we do charge a $200 Surgical Consultation fee with Dr. Buonassisi, but before this we provide a complimentary Pre-Consultation with our expert Patient Care Managers. In this free Pre-Consultation, they will cover many of the preliminary questions that are usually discussed in a surgical consultation, as well as perform a photo review with Dr. Buonassisi; to determine if you are indeed a candidate for the surgery. This means you will be provided with an answers about your surgical candidacy, as well as many other questions, without having to pay for any consultation fees.So when it comes to shopping around and doing multiple surgical consultations, depending on how other surgeons charge, and if they do or do not provide free pre-consultations, a lot of money could be spent to just receive a “No” from the surgeon. So when it comes to 8 West Cosmetic Surgery and Skin Clinic, not only does our Complimentary Pre-Consultation provide expert advice, it could very well save your $200 (or more).

When it comes to Double Eyelid Surgery, there are typically two different types of techniques that provide the desired eyelids crease - the Incisional Technique, and the Suture Technique. Dr. Thomas Buonassisi specializes in both surgical techniques, with over 20 years experience in performing them with excellent results. The Incisional Technique is where very fine incisions are carefully made in the upper eyelid skin, and any necessary excess skin and fat is removed. The incision is then sealed using stitches to create the actual crease, and the surgical scar is hidden in the new eyelid crease. Double eyelid surgery takes from 1.5 – 2 hours, and patients can return home the same day.The Suture Technique, rather than making one incision to remove fat and skin, utilizes a number of small incisions, and a suture (thus the name) is thread through them and tightened. The suture remains in the eyelid, and will compress the eyelid skin to create the crease. This technique can be revised and altered at a later date, by removing the suture, and repeating the procedure. With Double Eyelid Surgery, as designing an eyelid crease differs from patient to patient, which technique to use depends on a number of factors. Certain techniques provide better results, or even the only result, for certain patients; which is why speaking to a surgeon who can perform both techniques is ideal. So when it comes to Dr. Buonassisi and Double Eyelid Surgery, you are getting two-for-one when it comes to eyelid crease design and technique specialization.

Something that Dr. Buonassisi is well known for is the fact that he doesn’t like to talk about himself, or brag about his accomplishments… So that is why we are going to do it for him!Dr. Thomas Buonassisi, after graduating from Medical School at the University of British Columbia, completed his five-year Surgical Residency in Otolaryngology - surgery of the neck and head (don’t worry, we had to Google it too). Once his residency concluded, he jumped on a plane to the land Down Under and completed a Fellowship in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the Australian Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, primarily working between Sydney and Perth. He continued to travel throughout Australia and the United States to train with highly regarded surgeons and experts in the field of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.Dr. Buonassisi then continued to hone his skills and completed his certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) - a world class accreditation, and the only medical board in North America that certifies physicians exclusively in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery of the face and neck.

As they say, the proof is in the pudding - so it is no wonder that when people are searching for surgery, they wish to see other patient’s Before and After results. Below are some examples of patients that Dr. Buonassisi has performed Double Eyelid Surgery with, including both the Incisional and Suture Techniques.[ngg src="galleries" ids="363" display="basic_imagebrowser"]These Double EyelidBefore and After results are just a selection of those that we have received consent from the patient to use publicly. Dr. Buonassisi has seen hundreds of patients for Double Eyelid Surgery, and has a collection of his Before and After results. If you would like to see more patient Before and After photos, simply ask to see these during your consultation with Dr. Buonassisi, and he can take you through his gallery of surgical Before and After photos.

When it comes to price, we are not here to say that it doesn’t matter - we understand that it is an important part of what makes up a person’s purchasing decision. The primary point we want to get across when it comes to surgery is that it shouldn’t be THE deciding factor. When you are paying for surgery, you aren’t just paying for someone to put a scalpel to your skin - you’re paying for their education, experience and expertise. When it comes to 8 West Cosmetic Surgery & Skin Clinic, and Dr. Buonassisi, you’re paying for well-over a decade of education, more than 20 years of experience, and for someone who is an expert in the field of Facial Plastic Surgery. So when we add up all of these elements, to then try and place a dollar value on them, it’s almost impossible. The most important thing for you is to add up how much you value the very best results, as well as absolute peace of mind in who is performing the surgery. Because while we do have a price value on our plastic surgery procedures, the value that we place on our patients is priceless. If you would like to discuss Double Eyelid Surgery, or other Facial Plastic Surgery options, please feel free to contact us to speak to our wonderful Patient Care Managers for your free Pre-Consultation.
